The beer tasting is filled with beer made by the Hilversum brewery Eric’s Beer Craft ( https://ericsbeercraft.nl/ ), but all the beers have a different European origin. We start the tasting with a German Weizen of 4.4% vol. alc., only in this case a bit more exotic due to the addition of a little ginger. This beer not only pairs well with bratwurst but is also delicious with anything coming off the barbecue. The second beer is a beer that was originally made in Northern France. This is a so-called Saison, named Gijsbrecht, because it is brewed in Hilversum on the Gijsbrecht van Amstelstraat. This beer of just 4.5% vol. alc. is a good thirst quencher, which is also what the original was intended for: seasonal workers in the countryside. This beer therefore tastes good with everything. The third beer in the tasting is a 5% Oyster Stout or a 4% Porter for those who find a stout filtered over oyster shells a bit too intense. The Oyster Stout is therefore not suitable for people with a shellfish allergy, or who are vegan. Both beers originate in Ireland, but Porters are also produced in the Baltic states and the Czech Republic. This seems like a beer to accompany pizza, blue cheese, or Eastern European cuisine. The fourth and final beer is a 10.5% Barley Wine. This beer is brewed largely with rye, and the soft bitterness comes partly from the juniper berries it contains. This beer was once a ship’s beer, if you consider the Netherlands as its origin, but this type of beer is also brewed in Scandinavia. This is a dessert beer, but it also tastes good with all hearty dishes. For those who haven’t tried it yet, we also have a classic Tripel at 8.5% or a heavy dark beer at 8.8%, both originating in Belgium.
For the food tasting, we offer a bag of 5 tokens for 20 euros. With these, five snacks can be ordered from the above mentioned caterers. The same applies to the wine and beer tasting, with 5 tokens for 17.50 euros, you can take a journey through 5 wine or beer countries. (There is a 1-euro deposit on the (plastic) glasses to minimize litter on the premises).
Throughout the entire event, from 14:00 to 21:00, fries, sandwiches, soft drinks, coffee, tea, water, and ice cream are also for sale. A blue 3 euro token is required for this. All tokens can be purchased centrally at the cash register next to the “Zin in een Broodje” food truck, which is also a sponsor of the event.
The idea for this tasting is from Ronald van der Spek, the initiator of the “Local Food Market”. He has already organized this event several times in the Old Harbour of Hilversum. See: https://www.localfoodmarkt.nl/
